Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
K I'm admitting that I didn't read the other 3 pages, I'm too lazy. Just got a quick question about the sag swap-- Rich is that a direct bolt-on swap? I don't have fabrication tools so modifying/creating brackets is out of the question. My pump whines like hell-- I think it's time for a sag

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
Sag Pump is 100% bolt in. I got one out of a late 80s econoline with a serp pulley on it. I took the pump, with the aluminum mounting bracket still attached because I didnt have a puller to get the pulley off in the junkyard. Make sure you get the HIGH pressure hose from the same van, it will thread into your steering box, but your current hi pressure hose will not fit the sag pump. If you plan on remounting your stock AC compressor, get the 4 bolts that hold on the compressor from the donor truck. I found that my stock AC compressor bolts did not fit the aluminum bracket but the donor bolts would fit through my compressor. And last try and find a cap for the pump.
Oh I also needed a 1.5" longer belt.

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
Thanks Dan. I'll have to hit the junkyard next time I'm up at my mom's place.

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
It's totally worth it and about as easy as swapping in a 3G. Also, It's a great time to put in a power steering cooler instead of the stock ford wrapped line around crossmember cooler. I think I scored the pump, pulley, bracket, both hoses and hardware for about $40 to $50. Cooler was $8 and two new quarts of fluid was about $8 as well. It really is worth doing and easy with a little confidence.

I Love my Sag pump. I was doing push-ups with my tires with little effort. Oh, and no noise coming from the pump. Worth it is a huge understatement.

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
Update on the York; The York has turned out to be an awesome upgrade and well worth the money and labor I put into it. The only problem Iv'e found is that the output for the compressor gets very hot which causes the air hose I rigged up to heat up and come apart. This is simpley because of the way I rigged it together and the cheap hose I used and I hope to have a custom made replacement hose soon. It's suprisingly cheap and easy to get done.
Go out and get you some OBA!

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
I just had the same problem with the hose, but it lasted just over a year. The combo of oil and heat seemed to degrade it enough the it poped at 150 psi, while it was rated at 300. What are you doing for a heavy duty hose?

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
there is a hydrolic hose place in the same parking lot a ceasers shop that is cool with walk in one off hoses.
just to note I cut off the york nipple and drilled and tapped 1/4 NPT. using a barb fitting from a 3/8 goodyear hose and a cut up HF rubber hose.... never failed

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
My first was a HF "Cheapest black rubber hose" the 2nd was "goodyear" from HF. I used the crimped end at the pump with a quick disconnect. I'm thinking I'll look into something that is braide steel next.

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
BOOM! sim sim salabim! The new hose has swivel fitting at both ends making it way easier to install and un-install as well as being able to withstand engine heat, compressor heat, gas and oil spills as well as being a 1000 PSI hose and crimpings. The downside to never having to worry about this hose again was the price. $32 You figure by the time I put 4 + hose clamps, 3 plus fittings and hose on the old one, I was probably $15 into it. Cheaper to do it right the first time. The upside is I have the old hose I can part out for fittings and clamps.

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
I ended up taking it to tubes and hoses in Livermore. It's pretty close to my work and I wanted to get it done pre-snow trip. I think I got HOSED on the price but I'm glad it's done. It makes the install look way more professional for sure.

Re: Sag Pump, Power steering cooler and YORK!
I don't think the price is that bad. Quality 1000 psi hose with swivel ends. No leaks, no worries to heat. Some things are worth paying the extra money for.
