 Transmission cooler install (with pics)
So I ordered das cooler from summit (Part number DER-13950) which is a large sized stacked plate cooler with a fan mounted to it for better cooling. It comes with all sorts of goodies for pluming and mounting but I don't really like the supplied mounting materials so i'm scratching that stuff. They also offer 3 different types of hose hook ups which I'll be using the barbed fittings for rubber hoses. It also comes with an electronic thermostat for automatic use. Here's how i'm going to plum it un using the supplied fittings and thermostat And for those not electronically inclined, Here's how the wiring is going to go. There are many ways to do this but this is the way I like it. More to come as I get it in place and hooked up.

I didn't really see any improvement from no cooler to the stock. It basically holds extra fluid. This i'm hoping will be night and day.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
That looks great Rich, but now let me ask you this... Is that fan on the cooler a "pusher" or a "puller"?

Looks good Rich. Is your temp gauge reading after the cooler? Id be interested in comparing numbers since mine is pre cooler.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
I havn't driven it yet. I got back on it tonight after dinner. All the wiring is done accept for a 12V ignition on circuit. I'm not sure where to tap into yet. Any suggestions would be appriciated.
The fan can be wired either way but I preffer the fan be a puller and behind the cooler since it won't restrict the air flowing through when I am moving. Also looks better not having a bunch of fans showing behind your grill.
Before my tranny wouldn't stay stable enough to compare really. It would stay around 210 on my gauge but sometimes it wouldn't hit that at all and sometimes it would climb all willy nilly. I'm hoping this will steady it out. I'll let you know.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
Go get a relay and power it from your stereo turn on wire. You already have stereo wiring right? that should be a breeze.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
that would mean yet another wire running into the cab. Everywhere I looked I saw people splicing into the trailer relay on the relay panel next to the air filter. I think i'm going to do that.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
I've got so many now it doesn't bother me. I hid them in wire loom so it looks factory.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
I would wire from the alternator wire (ignition on) so it will not come on while your in acc. listening to the radio. That is how I wired my fan and air compressor.

Re: Transmission cooler install (with pics)
I was worried that it might have an up and down voltage effect. I'm not worried about it running while in ACC since I can turn them off if I want.

Thats strange that it fluctuates so much. I hardly ever run my fan on the street BTW, it just doesnt get that hot. Plus at 60+ on the freeway I dont know how much it helps if any.
