I. Club Name

The name of our club shall be Under Construction 4x4.

II. Purpose and People

Under Construction 4x4 is a club for the everyday off-roader. We are not a club of custom built, tube chassis, rock crawlers (nothing against that), but rather a club of mildly to heavily built rigs that just love to go off-roading. We run about 7-10 trips a year throughout California from the famous Hollister Hills, to Pismo Beach, to the El Dorado Mountains and many places in between. Most of our trips originate in the Bay Area since that is where the majority of our members live. Like most clubs we strive for cleanliness on the trails because we realize how lucky we are to have them. We have organized trail clean ups in the past and hope to do more in the future. So look around the website and see if our style of off-roading interests you.

III. New Members

New members can apply through the website via email, the forum or attending a club meeting. All members must be at least 18 years of age. In addition to meeting the vehicle requirements listed below, future members must attend one official club trip, with their rig, so that we may get to know you before joining. After attending a run the existing members will meet and vote on your admittance to the club. A 2/3rds majority must be reached for a new member to be accepted into the club. New Members are also subject to paying a portion of the costs incurred by the club (IE; Website, Stickers, etc.). This membership fee is currently $20 annually and will be re-evaluated every year.

IV. Existing Members

Existing members must attend at least two trips per calendar year to automatically remain an active member. In the event that a member fails to make two trips in one calendar year, they will be moved to “friends” status unless they receive a 2/3rds majority vote from the other current members allowing them to remain an active member. Members admitted to the club during the year are deemed to have automatically met the two trip requirement for the year of admittance. Any current member can be voted out of the club based on a 2/3rds majority vote of the other members. Membership fees will be assessed based on incurred costs, and will be split evenly among all members. Members will be informed of the annual fee on January 1st and must pay the annual fee by February 15th. Members must also meet the vehicle requirements listed in section V below.

V. Vehicle Requirements

The following modifications are required for all members vehicles. These modifications are meant to insure that all members can get through a moderately difficult trail. Basically, we do not want to spend the whole day dragging a stock truck down a tough trail.
  • Working four wheel drive.
  • 33" or taller tires.
  • Minimum 2" lift (body or suspension).
  • At least one strong tow point front or rear, preferably both.
  • Working seat belts for all passengers.
  • Can't be afraid of some body damage (seriously).
  • One or more "Under Construction 4x4" sticker.

VI. Vehicle Recommendations

The following modifications or accessories are recommended for members and friends vehicles.

  • Tow strap
  • Roll bar or cage
  • Full set of hand tools
  • Full size spare tire
  • High lift jack
  • Shovel
  • CB Radio
  • Fire extinguisher
  • First Aid kit
  • On board air source
  • Heavy duty bumpers
  • Winch
  • Spare fluids: oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering, gear oil, etc.
  • Spare parts: This includes, engine belts, u-joints, hoses, fluids, air-filter or any part that is commonly broken on your vehicle.

VII. Friends of UC4x4

"Friends of UC4x4" are people that have wheeled with the club but have not yet met all the vehicle requirements. "Friend of UC4x4" status is an attempt to give recognition to "members to be" or for past members that are no longer active in the club. To become a "Friend of UC4x4" you must have: (1) attended at least one trip with us, expressed an interest in becoming a member and receive a 2/3rds majority vote from the current members, or (2) have once been an active member. To become a "Friend of UC4x4" you must own a working four wheel drive vehicle.

VIII. Other

The reason we go off-roading is to have fun, but remember it can be dangerous. It is important to maintain and prepare your vehicle ahead of time for proper safety and reliability. Also remeber to not drive beyond your skill level or vehicles ability while out. Always secure loose cargo while on trails, and make sure you and all passengers have seat belts on. None of us expect unfortunate things to happen to us or our trucks but you never know. With that in mind, prepare for the worst and expect the best!
